Week of May 27th

Greetings Parents,

Three more weeks of school...three more IMPORTANT weeks of school. We had a great time at Wet n Wild on Friday morning. Thanks to all the parents and staff that made the day possible! The students will remember the slip n slide and the popsicles for sure! Don’t forget the Poetry share in two weeks on the 11th of June from 8:15-9:15 A.M.

Have a great last FULL week of third grade.

Reading This week students will continue to read wonderful poetry, using their ideas to spark new ideas in their own poems. Poetry is wonderful to read aloud and we practice different ways to read poetry and how and where to use expression.

Writing This week students will continue to write new poems in their poetry journal focusing on daily lessons surrounding poetry conventions.

Math Students will continue to work on fractions. This week they will work on ways to recognize and show that equivalent fractions have the same size, though not necessarily the same shape.

Science Students will continue to investigate the Maglev Train and how unbalanced forces cause the train to come down. We are finishing up our unit on forces soon.

Week of May 27th. Please complete 2 activities and bring in to share on Friday, May 31st.

Math: Mr. Morefield is moving to Prague. He told his third graders that he has sold ⅔ of his furniture. Ms. Blair said that she has sold ¾ of her furniture. Who has sold the most furniture? Show how you know this using two rectangles.	Language Arts: Ask your parents about some poems they remember when they were young and see if you can change it and make it your own poem. Be prepared to share it with the class.	Language Arts: Write a fictional account of how the Maglev train rises and falls on the track. Use your imagination while thinking about some crazy ways that train could “float.”
Math: Practice your fact fluency (multiplication, division, addition, or subtraction) Flashcards, online, games, worksheets	Science: Write a paragraph explaining how the now-famous maglev train rises and falls on the track.	Other:  Write a story about your favorite memory of grade three...who was there? What do you remember? How did you feel?

Remember: Reading is just what we do. It is expected each night.
