3JI also worked with 3JG on some Place Value Games this week.
The Global Cardboard Challenge was a huge success in grade 3. Creativity and collaboration filled our common area. Students were engaged and busy problem solving as they designed games, houses, forts, and so much more!

This week starts on a day 1.
What’s happening this week in the classroom?
Reading Students will continue practicing using their reading strategies to ensure understanding along with making predictions that include evidence from the text. We will also continue practicing retelling the main story events in order and then “growing ideas” by adding on to our own thinking about what we have read. Students are also working on their listening and speaking skills as they have book discussions with their book groups.

Writing Revision and editing continue to be a focus as students work with more independence on their new narrative. We will focus on using descriptive language and making a clear image in our readers’ mind as they read our stories.

Math We have begun our second math unit and in the coming week will focus on rounding to the nearest ten. We will introduce multiple strategies including using a number line, using benchmark numbers, and finding halfway numbers. As always the parent learning connection has ideas for you in math and reading/writinghere. |
Social Studies This week will mark the end of our Mapping and Landforms unit. Students will get an opportunity to share and celebrate the maps that they have created (landform, resource, climate, and population) as well as analyze and ask questions about the maps created by others. We will also have a chance to investigate any further questions that we have about maps and geography that we have not answered yet in the unit.

Now that you have learned about maps. Spend time on google maps or with an atlas and write down everything you notice about different types of maps.
